Don Quixote 2017 

Children’s Audition

Application deadline: 5:00pm, Friday 3 March 2017

Hong Kong Ballet will stage a full-length production of Don Quixote from 25-27 August 2017 at Hong Kong Cultural Centre’s Grand Theatre.

Don Quixote is a ballet originally staged in four acts and eight scenes and based on the famous novel Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. This production was choreographed by internationally renowned ballerina, Nina Ananiashvili, after Marius Petipa, Alexander Gorsky and Vakhtang Chabukiani.

It is our pleasure to invite local young talent to audition for the roles of: Boys and Girls in Kitchen and Wedding Scenes, and Little Cupids in Don Quixote. Successful applicants will have the chance to share the stage with our Company dancers!

Auditions will be held on 9 April 2017 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Details are as follows:

Children's roles for Don Quixote

Boys and Girls in Kitchen and Wedding Scenes:

  • Current ballet student (boys and girls) between 10 - 12 years old (on or before 25 August 2017)
  • Measure 130cm - 145cm in height
  • Demonstrate natural acting (miming) talent and musicality
  • Have a natural sense of free movement
  • Be able to learn quickly
  • Dance experience is an advantage
  • Confidence in stage performance
  • Must be able to attend ALL rehearsals and performances
Little cupids:
  • Current ballet student (girls only) between 10 - 12 years old (on or before 25 August 2017)
  • Measure 130cm - 145cm in height
  • Exhibit exceptional classical ballet training
  • Show a love of ballet through movement
  • Good feet and physique is an advantage
  • Be able to learn quickly
  • Confidance in stage performance
  • Must be able to attend ALL rehearsals and performances

Application guidelines:

  • Deadline to submission applications: 5:00pm, Friday 3 March 2017
  • Audition capacity: 200 candidates in total. Qualified registrants will be notified on a first-come, first-served basisPlease note that applying for a place does not guarantee an audition.
  • We accept applications via email (audition@hkballet.com) ONLY. Each application will register ONE candidate only.
  • Only individual applications will be accepted.
  • You will receive an auto-reply upon submission of your application. Please note that this acknowledgement does not guarantee a place at the audition.
  • Late submissions or incomplete registration forms will not be processed under any circumstances.
  • Multiple applications for the same candidate will result in him/her losing him.her chance at auditioning.
  • Hong Kong Ballet's decision on all matters relating to the audition is final.

A list of those invited to audition will be posted on our website on Friday 10 March 2017.

Announcement of audition results:

The applicants who have been selected to participate in the production will receive an individual e-mail notification by Friday 21 April 2017.
