FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hong Kong Ballet, Hysan Development and Lee Gardens Association

jointly presented ALICE (in wonderland) Fun Day to bring the art of ballet closer to the public

[Hong Kong – 16 August 2018] To celebrate the Asian premiere of the ballet extravaganza ALICE (in wonderland), Hong Kong Ballet, Hysan Development and Lee Gardens Association jointly hosted Ballet in Lee Gardens - ALICE (in wonderland) Fun Day on 4 August at Lee Gardens. Areas of Lee Gardens were transformed into Alice’s wonderland with activities like ballet-themed craft workshops, a vibrant parade and a live performance. Audiences immersed themselves in the classic fantasy story and experienced an extravagant and fantastic journey!

The ALICE (in wonderland) Fun Day kicked off with an ALICE-themed ballet workshop. Ballet enthusiasts learned about the story, music and dance postures from ALICE (in wonderland). Delicate headpieces from the production were on display and everyone was invited to use their imaginations to design their own unique props. Children were able to better understand ballet’s cultural and artistic influences as well as learn more about other famous ballets. They were also invited to express their creativity through creating fun custom ballet headpieces for themselves.

Over 50 Hong Kong Ballet and children dancers performed in a lively parade around Lee Gardens. Popular characters like Alice, the Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts, White Rabbit, Female Cards and a Junior Cards Girl joined hands to offer the audiences a rare sneak peek into the world of ALICE (in wonderland)! The parade started at Hysan Place, gradually wound around Lee Theatre and Lee Garden One and finished at Pak Sha Road. The audiences also had the chance to closely interact with the dancers and take photos with them in their fantastic costumes. It was an exciting adventure for the audiences to intimately experience and explore the mysterious rabbit hole.

Additionally, an Alice (in wonderland) Ballet Costume Exhibition at Lee Garden One and Two ran from 6 July to 5 August. The exhibition featured costumes created by Cirque du Soleil designer Liz Vandal of ALICE’s most unforgettable characters, including the colourful Mad Hatter, iconic White Rabbit, classic Alice, graceful Female Cards and lovely Junior Cards Girl.
