The 2018 Hong Kong Ballet Ball: The Gatsby Christmas Soiree

Featuring Christmas trees charity auction and

performance excerpts from The Great Gatsby

(Hong Kong, 5 December 2018) The 2018 Hong Kong Ballet Ball: The Gatsby Christmas Soiree was held successfully at the Grand Ballroom of Grand Hyatt Hong Kong yesterday.  As one of the signature charity balls in town, the Hong Kong Ballet Ball boasts a history of 33 years.  The funds raised in the evening will be used for the Company to continue staging inspiring productions, encouraging emerging artists, nurturing the next generation of audiences, as well as maintaining a full schedule of community engagement activities.

This Great Gatsby Gala took the guests back to the Roaring Twenties with its themed decorations and Art Deco chandeliers.  The stylish black-tie event featured mesmerising performances from the Company’s upcoming production – Septime Webre’s The Great Gatsby, and a very special Christmas trees charity auction.  In addition, guests bid on luxury items at the silent auction and danced the night away after the dinner, courtesy of a live jazz band.

Over 300 prominent society figures and celebrities attended an evening of fine dining and fabulous entertainment.  Among them were Ms Daisy Ho, Chairman of Hong Kong Ballet’s Board of Governors and Co-Chair of The Gatsby Christmas Soiree; Mrs Mira Yeh, Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong Ballet’s Board of Governors and Co-Chair of The Gatsby Christmas Soiree; Members of Board of Governors of Hong Kong Ballet – Ms Linda Fung, Mrs Deirdre Fu Tcheng, Ms Lindzay Chan, Ms Flora Zeta Cheong-Leen, Dr h. c., Mrs Leigh Tung Chou, Mrs Anne Wang Liu, Ms Evonne Tsui, Mr Arthur Minshiang Wang; Ms Pansy Ho; Ms Maisy Ho; Ms Maya Lin; Mrs Alison Chan El-Azar; Ms Adelene Chan; Ms Antonia Li; Ms Claudine Ying; Mrs Michelle Cheng-Chan; Mr Alan Chan; Ms Winnie Chiu; Mrs Adrienne Hui; Mrs Joanna Hotung; Ms Elly Lam; Mr Harris Chan; Mr Real Ting; Ms Joyce Lee; Mr Brandon Chau; Mrs Jade Yang; Mr Jonathan Cheung and many more.

In collaboration with Key Partner LANDMARK, three stunning Christmas trees elegantly decorated by world famous brands Balmain, Cartier and Jimmy Choo from the Ballet for All Christmas Tree Campaign were auctioned at the Ball.  These trees will be reconstructed by the brands at the donors’ designated locations afterwards, further spreading the joy of sharing through families and corporations. The proceeds of the charity auction will be used to support the staging of a Relaxed Performance customised for special needs audiences with autism or intellectual disabilities and their caregivers.

Chairman of Hong Kong Ballet’s Board of Governors and Co-Chair of The Gatsby Christmas Soiree Ms Daisy Ho said, “Hong Kong Ballet is dedicated to bringing ballet enjoyment to all, including the overlooked communities.  Our mission is to embrace audiences of all abilities. We have set up the Accessibility Fund to offer free tickets and ballet workshops to the underserved, and joined hands with local charities to welcome audiences with special needs in a sensory-friendly theatre, ensuring that ballet is accessible to all.  It is our honour to have established wonderful connection with the Hong Kong SAR Government, in particular with the Home Affairs Bureau and the Leisure Cultural Services Department, which serves as the catalyst for growth of the Company on many levels – to continue staging inspiring productions, nurturing new talents, and fostering ongoing collaborations with the community.  The Art Development Matching Grants Pilot Scheme, since 2016, has further helped to enhance our ability in raising donations and sponsorships through matching grants from the Government.”

Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong Ballet’s Board of Governors and Co-Chair of The Gatsby Christmas Soiree Mrs Mira Yeh added, “We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our Key Partner LANDMARK, Champange Partner Perrier-Jouët, Media Partner Hong Kong Tatler and Hotel Partner Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.  We would also like to sincerely thank our sponsors, table patrons and partners for their continued support and generosity.  Our big thank-you also goes to our amazing Committee members. This diverse group of talented individuals has contributed so much energy and ideas to bringing our guests a captivating evening.”
