The Sleeping Beauty

Embrace the romance of the world’s favourite fairy-tale, The Sleeping Beauty, with The Hong Kong Ballet.

In a faraway kingdom long, long ago, the evil fairy Carabosse casts a spell on the realm’s beloved Princess Aurora, cursing her to die on her 16th birthday. The good Lilac Fairy comes to the rescue; she cannot counteract the curse, but instead puts the Princess and the rest of the kingdom into a deep sleep. A hundred years later, Prince Désiré passes through the dark forest with his friends. The Lilac Fairy meets the prince and together they set out to break Carabosse’s wicked spell.

The revival of this sumptuous production staged by Cynthia Harvey, former Principal Dancer of American Ballet Theatre and The Royal Ballet, features magnificent sets and lush costumes by English designer Mark Bailey and music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. This slightly condensed, faster-paced version will deliver fun for all the family with the essential fairy-tale ingredients: romance, fate, good versus evil and of course, love!
