MA Renjie

Soloist

Born in Zhejiang, China, Ma Renjie trained at Hangzhou Art School and at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He began his career at Guangzhou Ballet, joined the Ballet of the Opéra national du Rhin in 2007 and was named soloist in 2015. Ma joined Hong Kong Ballet in 2019 as a Soloist.

With Hong Kong Ballet, he has danced the featured roles of Fritz in Terence Kohler’s The NutcrackerPas de Quatre in John Meehan’s Swan Lake and Noodler in Septime Webre’s Peter Pan. He was also featured in Corey Baker’s Lying Together. Prior to joining the Company, Ma performed Siegfried in Swan Lake, Romeo in Bertrand d’At’s Romeo and Juliet, Frantz in Jo Strømgren’s Coppelia, Gurn in Dinna Bjorn’s La Sylphide and Peasant Pas de Deux in Maina Gielgud’s Giselle. He has also danced in Maurice Béjart’s The Hammer without a Master and Variations for a Door and a Sigh, William Forsythe’s Quintett, Heinz Spoerli’s Goldberg Variations, Alexander Ekman’s Flockwork and Benjamin Millepied’s Without, among others.

Dance chose me.

Dance is my life. I can dance anywhere.

3. What keeps you motivated on tough days?
I can. I will. I must.

4. Where do you feel most yourself?
On stage.

5. If you could have one more talent, what would it be?

I want to be able to play a musical instrument.

6. What are your hobbies?
Swimming, working out, watching movies.

7. What is your favorite movie/book?
Sweet November.

8. If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
