[Hong Kong – 22nd December 2015] Hong Kong Ballet’s The Nutcracker brought a wonderful sense of festivity to Hong Kong last weekend. The production is composed of a perfect blend of luscious orchestral music, beautiful dancing, magical scenery and fabulous costumes, all wrapped up in the warmth of a world famous Christmas tale! The first five performances of this show dazzled its enthusiastic spectators over the weekend, during which two pairs of Principal Dancers, Jin Yao & Wei Wei, and Lui Yu-yao & Li Jia-bo shone on stage in the lead roles of the Ballerina and the Nutcracker.
On the Opening Night, Title Sponsor China Everbright Ltd. hosted a Pre-performance Cocktail Reception and an Intermission Cocktail Reception, both of which were attended by Mr Chen Shuang, Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer of China Everbright Ltd. and special guests who had the opportunities to be photographed with the Hong Kong Ballet’s beautiful and talented dancers including Peggy Lai, Tirion Law, Lucas Jerkander, Leung Chun Long and Luis Cabrera.
In the coming week, our Guest Principal Dancer, Jurgita Dronina (Principal Dancer of National Ballet of Canada) will arrive in town to dance the role of the Ballerina on the evening of Christmas Day, 25 Dec, and for the matinee on 26 Dec. And Hong Kong Ballet fans take note! Four Hong Kong Ballet dancers will première in the lead roles for this production: Nina Matiashvili, who joined Hong Kong Ballet as a Coryphée in 2014, will debut as the Ballerina, partnering with the rising Soloist Li Lin as the Nutcracker. Joining the Company earlier this year as a Corps de Ballet member, Japanese born Ryo Kato will dance as the Nutcracker. Another Corps de Ballet member Jiang Xin will be featured in two different casts as the evil Rat King for the first time.
