[Hong Kong—17 June 2021] Get ready for another wild ride down the rabbit hole! Hong Kong Ballet (HKB)’s exciting new season will begin 13–15 August 2021 with the encore of HKB Artistic Director Septime Webre’s award-winning, crowd-pleasing ALICE (in wonderland). A bold fusion of dance, theatre and puppetry, this giddy, over-the-top re-imagining of a familiar tale promises to be exhilarating fun for all ages!
Choreographed by Webre who was inspired by characters and events from Lewis Carroll’s classic novel, ALICE (in wonderland) showcases a dizzying array of dances that merge traditional ballet with contemporary energy, capturing the topsy-turvy magic of Wonderland and the bizarre characters that confront Alice on her incredible journey.
Bursting with energy and imagination, the visually stunning and enormously entertaining world of the heroine Alice, the White Rabbit, Queen of Hearts and Mad Hatter features captivating costumes by Cirque du Soleil designer Liz Vandal, outrageously flamboyant sets by James Kronzer and Matthew Pierce’s hypnotic original score.
Beloved by both audiences and critics, the production notably won Outstanding Performance by a Female Dancer, Outstanding Ensemble Performance and Outstanding Costume Design at the 21st Hong Kong Dance Awards.
Webre is delighted with the production’s return and shares, ‘ALICE (in wonderland) is playful and refreshing. Our dancers are thrilled to perform this popular hit which conveys a sense of optimism about the future after spending a challenging year together.’
Five performances will be held at Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Culture Centre. Priced at $680, $480, $320 and $180, with VIP tickets at $1,000, the tickets are available at URBTIX beginning on 18 June. Suitable for ages 3 and above. Don’t miss out on this fun summer adventure with Alice and her imaginative friends!
