After nearly two years of meticulous planning and rehearsing, the much-anticipated world premiere will conclude HKB’s memorable 2020/21 Season during 18-20 June 2021 at Hong Kong Cultural Centre’s Grand Theatre, taking audiences on a nostalgia-fueled journey back six decades in time. The extravagant production with its star-crossed lovers and their warring families will showcase for the first time Artistic Director Septime Webre’s original choreography for HKB, which incorporates dramatic kungfu moves and pays homage to Hong Kong’s renowned cultural diversity. International ballet star Daniel Camargo, former Principal Dancer at Dutch National Ballet and Stuttgart Ballet, will join HKB dancers for the 18-19 June evening performances.

Set to Sergei Prokofiev’s celebrated score, this reimagining of Shakespeare’s most famous play finds Romeo and Juliet meeting in 1960s Hong Kong, surrounded by street gangs and party girls with which local audiences will be delightedly familiar. Featuring 21 mesmerising scenes with over 280 stunning costumes designed by Mandy Tam and visually authentic sets designed by Ricky Chan, the epic love story finds its inspirations from old Hong Kong’s cityscape, traditions and cinema.

In a rare encounter between kungfu and ballet, martial arts advocate Hing Chao and kungfu masters from the International Guoshu Association trained HKB dancers extensively in martial arts combat and collaborated with Webre to design and choreograph the production’s spine-tingling martial arts scenes, infusing modern details into a classic tale of forbidden love.

Priced at $680, $480, $280 and $140, with VIP tickets at $1,000, very limited tickets of the five performances are available at URTIX. Suitable for ages 6 and above.
