Cast Announced for Don Quixote

[Hong Kong—21 October 2020] Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) announces the casting for lead roles of Nina Ananiashvili’s highly-acclaimed Don Quixote, which is set to kick off its 2020/21 Season on 30 October 2020 at Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

This uplifting family-friendly production first took the stage in 2014 and later in 2017, winning numerous awards and rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. With its delightful mashup of comedy, fantasy, technically demanding choreography and brilliant costumes inspired by flamenco, gypsies and bullfighting, there’s no better production to welcome audiences back after HKB’s ten-month hiatus.

Based on Cervantes’ literary classic of the same name, and set in sunny Spain, the story centres around Don Quixote, the gallant eponymous hero, embarking a remarkable adventure with his loyal servant Sancho Panza in pursuit of chivalric romance. On their journey, the duo meet the spirited Kitri and Basilio, who express their love with one of the most famous and challenging pas de deux of all time, spicing up intricate classical choreography with some exotic Spanish flair. The most popular romantic comedy in ballet, the heartwarming Don Quixote promises great fun and humour with its vibrant dancing and unforgettable characters.

The production will run 30 October–1 Nov 2020 at Hong Kong Cultural Centre’s Grand Theatre for five performances. Available at URBTIX now, tickets are priced at $680, $480, $280 and $140, with VIP tickets at $1,000. Audiences ages 3 or above are welcome.

All audiences are required to wear their own masks, avoid sharing items and maintain appropriate social distance in the theatre. The safety of our patrons, artists and staff is our first priority, and as such, seating for Don Quixote will reflect social distancing regulations in Hong Kong. HKB is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and will promptly announce any changes to our performances following the latest official pandemic recommendations, including the release of additional seats for sale to the public should social distancing rules be relaxed prior to the performances.
