[Hong Kong—13 December 2021] The highly anticipated world premiere of Hong Kong Ballet (HKB)’s thrilling The Nutcracker by Artistic Director Septime Webre added more joy to the holiday season as family and friends gathered to watch the beloved classic together. Proudly presented by China Everbright Ltd., The Nutcracker opened 11 December and will have 19 performances through 26 December at Hong Kong Cultural Centre’s Grand Theatre, giving audiences a special Christmas experience. The opening performance received a roaring standing ovation from our amazing audience.
Webre’s The Nutcracker brings festive cheer with its fantastical celebration of Hong Kong in the early 20th century. The Christmas Eve adventure begins at a lively party in an opulent golden mansion where young Clara receives a special Nutcracker as a gift. With scores of lavish props and extraordinary costumes, this magical world finds Clara and the Nutcracker on a journey crossing time, battling the evil Rat King’s army and encountering lively, memorable characters among the wonderous beauty of local flora and fauna, traditions and wildlife. International ballet star and guest principal artist Daniel Camargo preformed charismatically and elegantly as the Cavalier, while Tchaikovsky’s timeless score was eloquently played live by Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
It is our great pleasure to have China Everbright Ltd. as our Title Sponsor of The Nutcracker, who has been sponsoring HKB for the 7th consecutive year since The Nutcracker in 2015. On opening night, HKB proudly hosted Mr Yang Yirui, Deputy Commissioner of The Commissioner's Office of China's Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR; Ms Peng Jie, Director of the Department of Publicity, Cultural and Sports Affairs, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government; Mr Joe Wong Chi-cho, JP, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, along with Mr Harry Wang, Vice President of China Everbright Ltd., and his guests.
