HKB on Tour Delights Macau and Beijing Audience

[Hong Kong — 18 November 2024] In November, Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) visited two vibrant cities on tour, wowing full houses and garnering both critical acclaim and enthusiastic audience praise in Macao with The Butterfly Lovers and in Beijing with UOB Proudly Presents ALICE (in wonderland). The company strives to engage with audiences all over the world, sharing the joy and beauty of ballet with inspiring original productions that creatively incorporate distinctive Hong Kong elements.

The Butterfly Lovers’ Positive Macao Reception
After The Butterfly Lovers’ successful world premiere in Hong Kong, this stunning production made its debut at Macao Cultural Centre 9-10 November with live music by Macao Orchestra under the baton of Lio Kuokman, Macao Orchestra’s Music Director and Principal Conductor. The two full-house performances entertained audience members in a wonderful first-time collaboration with Macao Orchestra.

UOB Proudly Presents ALICE (in wonderland) Delights Beijing 
During 15-16 November, HKB staged UOB Proudly Presents ALICE (in wonderland) at National Centre for the Performing Arts’s Opera House in Beijing. This wildly popular show choreographed by HKB Artistic Director Septime Webre explores themes of friendship, perseverance and strength of character. The company is overjoyed that all three performances had full houses and were adored by local audiences!

It was a privilege to celebrate HKB's 45th anniversary and UOB China's 40th anniversary on opening night with over 200 esteemed guests, including Mrs Christine Ip, UOB’s CEO of Greater China, and Head of Group Strategic Communications and Brand, Ms Cynthia Xin, UOB China’s Executive Director, Acting Head of Wholesale Banking, Head of Corporate Banking and General Manager of Beijing Branch, Ms Sabrina Fu, UOB China’s Head of Strategic Communications and Brand, Ms Amy Yuen, Office of the Government of the HKSAR in Beijing’s Acting Director, Ms Linda Fung, HKB Vice Chairman, and Ms Flora Zeta Cheong-Leen, HKB Programming Committee member and officials from the Central People’s Government.

Special Beijing Cultural Tour
Some adventurous HKB patrons joined HKB on tour and enjoyed the special ‘Discover Stunning Artistry in Beijing: An Extravagant Ballet & Prestigious Cultural Tour’ during 14-17 November. They attended opening night of UOB Proudly Presents ALICE (in wonderland) and the exclusive afterparty, an energetic morning class with ballet star Vladimir Malakhov and a private guided tour of famous Beijing cultural landmarks.

One of Asia’s premier classical ballet companies, Hong Kong Ballet represents Hong Kong’s unique character and has continued to raise its international profile with over 50 tours to 11 countries in North and South America, Europe and Asia. HKB will present the beloved holiday classic Henderson Land Proudly Presents The Nutcracker at Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre during 13-29 December.

HKB maintains the Hong Kong Academy of Ballet, a professionally-oriented ballet school, as well as a full schedule of award-winning community programmes and crossover collaborations throughout Hong Kong to ensure ballet is accessible to all. HKB has also produced engaging original videos and dance films that have collectively garnered over 10 million views online, connecting with ballet lovers worldwide.
