[Hong Kong – 5 March 2018] The Hong Kong Ballet Beatles Preview Benefit 2018 was held in Grand Hyatt Hong Kong’s Grand Ballroom on Sunday, 4 March 2018 with over 360 guests dressed in glamorous 60s attire in honour of the evening’s Beatles theme. This inaugural fundraising evening celebrated Artistic Director Mr Septime Webre’s arrival with an evening of conviviality featuring excerpts of internationally acclaimed choreographer Trey McIntyre’s Beatles rock ballet, A Day in the Life. Guests thoroughly enjoyed the HKB dancers performing the imaginative, spirited choreography to classic Beatles songs like ‘Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da’ and ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ and enthusiastically applauded the performances. "Rock shakes up ballet’s staid qualities, and ballet seems to illuminate the poetry inherent in rock’s lyrics and sound. It pushes the boundaries of what we think ballet expression can be about." said Mr Webre.
Among the prominent society figures and celebrities who attended this night of fine dining and fabulous entertainment were Mr Kurt W.Tong, Consul General representing the United States to Hong Kong and Macau; Ms Daisy Ho, Chairman of Board of Governors of Hong Kong Ballet and Hong Kong Ballet Beatles Preview Benefit 2018 Committee Co-Chairs; Mrs Mira Yeh, Vice Chairman of Board of Governors of Hong Kong Ballet and Hong Kong Ballet Beatles Preview Benefit 2018 Committee Co-Chairs; Ms Linda Fung, Mrs Deirdre Fu Tcheng, Ms Linzay Chan, Ms Flora Zeta Cheong-Leen, Dr.h.c., Mrs Leigh Tung Chou, Mrs Anne Wang Liu, Ms Evonne Tsui and Mr Arthur Minshiang Wang, Board of Governors of Hong Kong Ballet; Ms Pansy Ho; Ms Winnie Chiu; Ms Wendy Chiu; Mr and Mrs Kent and Emily Ho; Mrs Bonnie Li; Ms Anina Ho; Mr and Mrs Ernie and Marie Suek; Mr Howard Chao; Ms Gillian Ho; Mrs Angie Ting; Mr and Mrs Vincent and Sofie Yum; Mr and Mrs Ronald and Reggie Kwok; Mrs Olivia Lee-Davies; Mr Real Ting; Ms Mandy Cho and more.
Hong Kong Ballet aims to share more diverse ballet works in unconventional settings to reach new audiences. Benefit Committee Co-Chairs, Ms Daisy Ho and Mrs Mira Yeh are thrilled with the support received for the live auction items and the Make-A-Pledge programme. “Funds raised allow us to consistently stage first-class ballet productions, provide professional training to our beloved dancers and expand our award-winning education and outreach programmes, which have touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of students and underserved community members,” said Ms Ho.
Additionally, an influential group of Benefit ambassadors representing the next generation of ballet audiences helped promote the evening of 60s fun and fundraising to a younger audience. The Benefit’s ambassadors include Ms Claudine Ying, Mrs Alison Chan-El Azar, Ms Antonia Li and Ms Beatrice Ho. Mrs Yeh said, "This evening would not be possible without the hard work of our Benefit Committee and Benefit Ambassadors and the generosity of our sponsors, and I would like to express our deepest gratitude to Lead Sponsors Qeelin and Pernelle, Champagne Partner Perrier-Jouët, Media Partner Hong Kong Tatler, and Hotel Partner Grand Hyatt Hong Kong."
