[Hong Kong—27 October 2021] Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) and MTR Corporation jointly present ‘The Ballet Encounters @ MTR’ with two innovatively entertaining dance videos ‘The Grace of Ballerinas @ Choi Hung Station’ and ‘This is Wan Chai @ Wan Chai Station’, transforming two public places into stages. Dancers from HKB perform around the iconic “Art in MTR” station artworks to offer passengers a fresh perspective and a chance to appreciate multiple forms of art at one glance. Videos are available for viewing from 27th October, 2021 onwards on HKB social media platforms as well as MTR website and YouTube channel.
In ‘The Grace of Ballerinas @ Choi Hung Station’, HKB dancers in retro-nerd’s look are fascinated by three ballerina statues in the station. In order to get the ballerinas’ attention, they dance around the statues, showing off their impeccable technique. In ‘This is Wan Chai @ Wan Chai Station’, HKB dancers frolic around the iconic station artwork ‘This is Wan Chai’ with its magical-realist photos serving as the backdrop of their performance, and catapult themselves through the station with style, wit, and a touch of tongue-in-cheek surrealism demonstrating a vibrant and upbeat Wan Chai to the audience.
This collaboration reimagines and reinvents the MTR stations as a public space at the heart of the local community, providing an opportunity for new discovery with every trip through the stations. We hope commuters can be unexpectedly inspired by art that elevates the human experience.
