Hong Kong Ballet collaborates with LANDMARK

for “Ballet for All” Christmas Tree Campaign
Sharing the joy of ballet with special needs audiences

[Hong Kong – 6 November 2018] Expanding its efforts to make ballet an art form accessible for all, Hong Kong Ballet is collaborating with LANDMARK in the “Ballet for All” Christmas Tree Campaign to raise funds for a relaxed performance customised for special needs audiences with autism or intellectual disabilities and their caregivers.

World famous brands Balmain, Cartier and Jimmy Choo designed and decorated Christmas trees with their own unique sense of style. The stunning trees will be on public display at LANDMARK during 5-30 November, along with the message of the fundraising mission.

The Christmas trees will be auctioned at Hong Kong Ballet’s popular annual Ball “The Gatsby Christmas Soiree”. The funds raised at the charity auction will be used to support the staging of an inspiring relaxed performance, offering audiences with special needs the opportunity to experience the power of live ballet or theatre.

Ms Daisy Ho, Chairman of Board of Governors of Hong Kong Ballet and Co-Chair of The Gatsby Christmas Soiree, said, “Hong Kong Ballet is dedicated to making ballet accessible to all, including those overlooked communities, through its extensive community and education work. In this festive season of giving and sharing, we are delighted to collaborate with LANDMARK in launching the Christmas Tree Charity Campaign, aiming to offer persons of special needs the opportunity to enjoy ballet, and to share the message of love and harmony with the community, in support of our mission ‘Ballet for All’. We are very grateful for the support of LANDMARK as our Key Partner, and of the three brands – Balmain, Cartier and Jimmy Choo – by donating specially decorated trees for auction at our charity ball ‘The Gatsby Christmas Soiree’ on 4 December.”

Mr Warren Bishop, Director & Head of Retail, Commercial Property, Hongkong Land expressed his delight in bringing the campaign to LANDMARK. “LANDMARK is a keen supporter of community causes to develop an appreciation for the arts and culture. We are particularly pleased to partner with one of the crown jewels of the city’s cultural assets – Hong Kong Ballet – to further its work of bringing the joy of ballet to all layers of society. The beautiful Christmas trees displayed at LANDMARK created by three of our Tenants, Balmain, Cartier and Jimmy Choo, are placed in support of the ballet programme to reach audiences with special needs, a very worthwhile cause” he said.

Attending the kick-off ceremony were also Vice-Chairman of Board of Governors of Hong Kong Ballet and Co-Chair of The Gatsby Soiree Mrs Mira Yeh; Managing Director APAC of Balmain Ms Chiara Scaglia; Marketing & Communication Director of Cartier Ms Emmanuelle KouaKou; Committee Members of The Gatsby Christmas Soiree Ms Procia Leung, Ms Maya Lin and Mr Benjamin Aubanton; Members of Board of Governors of Hong Kong Ballet Ms Lindzay Chan, Ms Linda Fung, Mrs Deirdre Fu Tcheng and Mr Arthur Minshiang Wang; Co-Chairs of The Hong Kong Ballet Guild 2018/19 Mrs Connie Wei Yang and Mrs Liana Yung Yeung; Executive Director of Hong Kong Ballet Mr Paul Tam; Hong Kong Ballet’s Ambassadors Mrs Alison Chan-El Azar and Ms Antonia Li; Ms Maisy Ho; Ms Natalie Chan; Ms Adelene Chan; Ms Michelle Cheng and Mr Alan Chan; Mrs Sandee Sun and many more.

Hong Kong Ballet’s Artistic Director Septime Webre, together with dancers Wang Qingxin, Lai Nok Sze Vanessa, Garry Corpuz and Henry Seldon, greeted the audiences at the ceremony and introduced The Great Gatsby with signature dance postures from the ballet performance. The Great Gatsby is Hong Kong Ballet’s highlighted production which will come on stage in February 2019, as well as the theme for the glamorous 2018 Ballet Ball “The Gatsby Christmas Soiree” at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong on 4 December.

What is a relaxed performance?
A relaxed performance welcomes audiences who benefit from a more relaxed environment and is ideal for those with autism, sensory issues and/or learning difficulties. Certain production elements such as lights and sounds are adjusted to soften the sensory experience of the performance. Additionally, ‘chill-out zones’ are available for anyone feeling overwhelmed during the show.
