[Hong Kong - 26 August 2019] Hong Kong Ballet’s 40th Anniversary Season Opener, the Asian premiere of Septime Webre’s Peter Pan that featured its leads flying on high wires across the stage delighted audiences at each of its ten performances at Hong Kong Cultural Centre and at Sha Tin Town Hall the past two weekends.
South China Morning Post raved that ‘it bursts with freshness and energy, helped by an imaginative set, fabulous costumes and astute casting…Shen Jie makes an ideal Peter Pan, and Webre, turning the story on its head, makes the villains of the piece figures of fun who steal every scene they’re in.’
At the ceremony, Mr Septime Webre, Artistic Director of Hong Kong Ballet, and Mr Paul Tam, Executive Director of Hong Kong Ballet, shared special highlights of Peter Pan and the upcoming captivating activities at Lee Gardens. Mr Webre said, “The ballet production of Peter Pan has added many modern stage effects, including flying effects and extraordinarily designed sets and costumes. It has truly tested the limits of our dancers’ techniques, and audiences can’t wait to take a high-flying adventure into the world of Peter Pan.”
On Opening Night on 16 August, the Company hosted an Intermission Cocktail Reception for notable guests, including Mr Lau Kong-wah, JP, Secretary for Home Affairs; Mrs Mira Yeh, Chairman of Board of Governors of Hong Kong Ballet; Members of Board of Governors of Hong Kong Ballet — Mrs Deirdre Fu Tcheng, Ms Linda Fung and Mrs Liana Yung Yeung.
The evening was also attended by members from Hysan Development and Lee Gardens Association, who sponsored Ballet in Lee Gardens — Peter Pan, including Ms Irene Lee, Chairman of Hysan Development Company Limited; Mr Mark Tung, Director of Lee Gardens Association; Ms Christine Wong, Head of Area Curation Investment & Development of Hysan Development Company Limited and Ms Ann Yip, Manager of Lee Gardens Association. All guests enjoyed photo opportunities with Hong Kong Ballet dancers.
Additionally, Hong Kong Ballet has collaborated with Hysan Place and Lee Gardens on a series of interactive Peter Pan themed events, including two exhibitions, a series of workshops, a Fun Day for all ages and a parade with Peter Pan’s favourite characters through the streets of Causeway Bay. The most anticipated Peter Pan Ballet Fun Day with live performances and parade will take place on Saturday, 7 September.
Committed to bringing the joy of ballet to the people from all walks of life, Hong Kong Ballet will continue its 40th anniversary season with Swan Lake (25-27 Oct & 2-3 Nov 2019) and China Everbright Proudly Presents International Gala of Stars 2019 (31 Oct – 1 Nov 2019).
