[Hong Kong – 18 February 2017] The Hong Kong Ballet Ball, one of the longest running fundraising events in the city, was held in the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong’s Grand Ballroom on Friday, 17 February 2017.
The much-anticipated event was made possible by Luxury Sponsor Swiss fine watchmaking brand Jaeger-LeCoultre, who collaborated for the first time with Hong Kong Ballet for the event and always spares no effort in promoting the development of arts in different forms including ballet and cinema. The purpose of the evening was to raise funds to allow the Company to continue staging magnificent productions, encouraging emerging choreographers, educating the next generation of audiences and supporting the development of the arts in Hong Kong. Since the Ballet Ball began in 1985, the funds generated by this event have significantly contributed to the growth of the Company. Today, Hong Kong Ballet is internationally recognised as a top institution that embodies the dynamic vitality of Hong Kong.
Over 360 prominent society figures and celebrities attended a night of fine dining and fabulous entertainment. Guests at this year’s Ball were entertained by an extravaganza of classical ballet and contemporary dance works. The three performances by Hong Kong Ballet’s exceptional dancers included Waltz of the Flowers from the popular annual production of The Nutcracker, which featured 12 talented child dancers, White vs Black, a piece about a ballerina’s devotion to her daily practice that was inspired by Swan Lake and created by Hong Kong Ballet’s choreographer Yuh Egami, and Still•Lives, which deals with coping with a lost love using a unique combination of ballet and pole dancing and is choreographed by the Company’s own Ricky Song-wei Hu.
Throughout the evening, there were lots of fun and lively moments as guests bid for their favourite auction items, of which there was a much sought after selection, including two delicate Reverso Collection watches from Luxury Sponsor Jaeger-LeCoultre and the World Class Perrier-Jouët Chef Experience – Dinner for 10 donated by Champagne Partner Perrier-Jouët.
Co-Chair of The 2017 Hong Kong Ballet Ball Gala Committee Ms Daisy Ho emphasised the importance of the funds raised at the Ball, “As one of the most prestigious fundraising gala events in our city, the Hong Kong Ballet Balls have played a significant role in the growth of this amazing Company by raising critical funds to advance its numerous innovative artistic and corporate developments. The donations will fund our education and community outreach initiatives and the creation of our much-loved ballets, as well as grooming our formidable dancers.”
