Webre’s choreography showcases a dizzying array of dances that merge traditional ballet with contemporary energy, capturing the topsy-turvy magic of Wonderland and the bizarre characters that confront Alice on her incredible journey. With mastery and unexpected humor, Webre re-imagines the familiar tale as a fusion of dance, theater, and puppetry that is both visually stunning and enormously entertaining. ALICE (in wonderland) features sleek and chic costumes from Cirque du Soleil designer Liz Vandal, James Kronzer’s bold, hypnotic sets and a thrilling original score by Matthew Pierce.
As a global ambassador for Hong Kong, presenting the best of Hong Kong’s creativity and drive to the world, the Company regularly tours throughout Europe, North America and Asia. This November, Hong Kong Ballet will headline Taiwan’s 2018 HONG KONG WEEK with ALICE (in wonderland) at Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center. There will be two performances with live accompaniment 30 Nov to 1 December 2018 at 7:30pm. This giddy, over-the-top re-imagining of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale promises exhilarating fun for all ages!
"Packed with spectacular theatrical effects, fast and furious dancing and blazing energy, it’s great entertainment for children, parents and ballet lovers alike.” South China Morning Post
“In ALICE (in Wonderland), the title character is not only a kid with a fantastic imagination — she’s also an adrenaline junkie...Webre’s account, which draws on characters and events from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass is a giddy parade, a pop-art dream, a feat of fevered imagination. The work is skillfully geared to children, although adult tastes are not ignored on the menu of visual splendor…It is a tour de force for Webre, who choreographed dances in all manner of styles for a spree of personages and scenes.” The Washington Post
“The whole thing is an incredibly creative spectacle, pure and simple, repeatedly bringing the audience to delighted laughter.” City Paper
“Highly creative, whimsical, and entertaining.” Metro Arts
