[Hong Kong – 20 December 2016] Christmas would not be Christmas without The Nutcracker! Hong Kong Ballet’s The Nutcracker brought a wonderful sense of festivity to Hong Kong last weekend with its perfect blend of Tchaikovsky’s timeless music, magical scenery and fabulous costumes. The first five performances of the show with live accompaniment by Hong Kong Sinfonietta dazzled enthusiastic audiences over the weekend, during which three pairs of exceptional dancers, Yao Jin and Ryo Kato, Fei-fei Ye and Jia-bo Li, Yu-yao Liu and Wei Wei shone brightly on stage in the lead roles of the Ballerina and the Nutcracker. Additionally, the protagonist Clara was played by Naomi Yuzawa and Peggy Pui-ki Lai, who made her lead role début in this production, and both women were partnered by Jie Shen, Jonathan Spigner and Jun Xia as Fritz in different casts. Their stellar performances brought the amazing adventures of Fritz and Clara to life!
On Opening Night, the Company and Title Sponsor FANCL hosted a Pre-performance Cocktail Reception and an Intermission Cocktail Reception, both of which were attended by Mr Christopher Chan, Managing Director of Fantastic Natural Cosmetics Limited (FANCL); Ms Michelle Ma, Executive Director of Fantastic Natural Cosmetics Limited (FANCL), Mrs Mira Yeh, Vice Chairman of Board of Governors of Hong Kong Ballet; Mrs Janice Chan-Choy, Member of Board of Governors of Hong Kong Ballet and special guests including Mrs Wendy Law, Mr Stephen Yeung, Ms Maya Lin, Ms Veronica Lam, Ms Sharon Cheung, Ms Nicola Cheung, Ms Sabrina Leung, Ms Michelle Loo, Ms Snowy Choi, Ms Alison Chiu, Ms Ada Pong and Ms Kayi Cheung who had the opportunities to be photographed with the Hong Kong Ballet dancers including Ge Gao, Lucas Jerkander, Jessica Burrows, Shunsuke Arimizu, Chun-long Leung, Peng-fei Jiang, Di Wu and Nana Sakai. With the support of FANCL, the Company organised a Family Fun Workshop on 18 December for Po Leung Kuk Gold and Silver Exchange Society Pershing Tsang School and Po Leung Kuk Mrs. Chan Nam Chong Memorial Primary School. The two beneficiary schools also received complimentary tickets to attend The Nutcracker performance in the evening. All the participants enjoyed a great time and had a memorable ballet experience.
In the coming week, two more Hong Kong Ballet dancers will première in the lead roles for this production: Apprentice Tirion Lok-huen Law and Corps de Ballet member Luis Cabrera will make their débuts as Clara and Fritz, respectively, on 24 December at 2:30pm.
