Four Performances in Tuen Mun Town Hall Auditorium
Tickets on Sale Today

[Hong Kong – 13th January 2015] Step into a truly majestic world as the dancers of The Hong Kong Ballet enchant you with The Sleeping Beauty, an eternal classic in ballet history. Perfect for the entire family, you and your loved ones will be mesmerised by the beautiful Princess Aurora and the charming Prince Désiré in this forever popular fairy tale. Four performances of The Sleeping Beauty will be staged at Tuen Mun Town Hall Auditorium from 13th to 15th March 2015 (Friday to Sunday). Box office opens today at URBTIX.

Commissioned for The Hong Kong Ballet in 2010 and produced by Cynthia Harvey, former Principal Dancer of American Ballet Theatre and The Royal Ballet, Harvey’s captivating version of The Sleeping Beauty features magnificent sets and stunning costumes by English designer Mark Bailey and a beautiful score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It embraces all the elements of an enduring, majestic fairy tale: passion, romance, fate, good versus evil, and of course, true love. Spectators will be enthralled by Princess Aurora’s Rose Adagio, one of classical ballet’s most technically challenging set pieces. Meanwhile the cast of magical characters including the good Lilac Fairy, the White Cat, Puss in Boots, the Bluebird and Princess Florine will not disappoint – each and every one will provide many entertaining and rapturous moments!

Artistic Director Madeleine Onne added, “We are delighted to be bringing this all-time favourite fairy tale to Tuen Mun, introducing the growing arts audience there to the beauty and grace of ballet. To heighten the young ballet lovers’ understanding of the art form, the young audiences at the two matinee performances (14th & 15th March) will be invited to join the dancers on stage after the show to try out some elementary steps. We want this occasion to be an opportunity for our young spectators to participate, to explore ballet as a fun and important cultural art form.”

About The Sleeping Beauty
In a faraway kingdom long, long ago, the malevolent fairy Carabosse casts a spell on the realm’s beloved Princess Aurora, cursing her to die on her 16th birthday. The good Lilac Fairy comes to the rescue… she cannot counteract the curse but instead she modifies it, putting the Princess and the rest of the kingdom into a deep sleep. One hundred years later, Prince Désiré passes through the dark forest with his friends. The Lilac Fairy meets the Prince and together they set out to break Carabosse’s wicked spell. In time-honoured fashion, good triumphs over evil and the Prince and Princess live happily ever after.
