A preview of our upcoming production was held on 13th May 2014 at Studio Theatre, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The five short pieces featured in Les Sylphides and More were introduced to around 100 audience members.

Our Director of Artistic Planning & Touring, Joseph Morrissey talked about background of the captivating ballets including Les Sylphides, Pas de deux from Le Corsaire, Pas de deux from Five Movements, Three Repeats, Pas de deux from Finding Light and Shape of Glow, giving the audience a greater insight into the pieces they would see in the show.

To explain more about the unique qualities of the classical ballet Les Sylphides, Joseph showed some clips of footage, and talked about the postures and movements. He also interviewed our Artistic Director Madeleine Onne, along with guest pianist Daniel Chan and Company pianist Nicholas Lau, who were preparing to perform Chopin’s piece during the show. The audience loved hearing more about the ballet’s history, and enjoyed Daniel’s and Nicholas’s live performances alongside the dance demonstration by The Hong Kong Ballet’s dancers.

The highlight of the preview was an appearance by world famous choreographer Jorma Elo. He talked about the experience of creating his thought-provoking piece Shape of Glow, as well as rehearsing excerpts of the ballet with The Hong Kong Ballet dancers.
