Swan Lake

Creative Ballet Animateur Scheme 2015/16 –

School Introductory Visits

As part of the School Performing Arts in Practice Scheme, and initiated by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and presented in partnership with Hong Kong Ballet, the Creative Ballet Animateur Scheme commenced in September 2015 with the introductory visits to six local primary schools, reaching out to over 2,500 students. These visits began with an introduction to Hong Kong Ballet and to the 8-month project. It also explored the background, main characters, theme, story, music and costumes of Swan Lake. It was followed by a dance demonstration by Company dancers Nina Matiashvili, Murman Kikalishvili, Tirion Law and Nicole Assaad, as well as an interview section with Principal Dancer Zhang Si Yuan to share her ballet experience. During the interactive section, students actively engaged in learning mime techniques with Si Yuan, and basic ballet steps with the other dancers. The introductory visits were well received as evidenced by the positive response of the students and the great acclaim by the teachers and principals.

Following these introductory visits, students began their creative journey – creating an instructive mini ballet production based on the classical ballet Swan Lake. Over the next few months, they will participate in the basic ballet training, costume workshops, backstage production, and will perform a finale performance of their creation.
