[Hong Kong – 18 December 2018] With its signature elements of Tchaikovsky’s timeless music, wondrous scenery and glittering costumes, Hong Kong Ballet’s The Nutcracker, choreographed by Terence Kohler, brought some holiday magic to Hong Kong last weekend, with all shows sold out. The first five performances following Clara and Fritz’s adventures into the magical doll house with live accompaniment by Hong Kong Sinfonietta charmed audiences over the weekend.
Four pairs of dancers, Ye Feifei and Li Jiabo, Venus Villa and Xia Jun, Chen Zhiyao and The Houston Ballet’s Principal Chun Wai Chan, Gao Ge and Li Lin, enthralled audiences in the lead roles of the Ballerina and the Nutcracker. Everyone also warmly welcomed Hong Kong Actress and FANCL spokesperson Annie Liu, who made cameo appearances as the Starlight Fairy on the 14 December evening and 15 December matinee performances. Annie’s bespoke glow-in-the-dark tutu was a technical and creative marvel that made a memorable impression on everyone!
On Opening Night, Title Sponsor FANCL hosted pre-performance and intermission cocktail receptions, which were attended by Mr Christopher Chan, Managing Director of Fantastic Natural Cosmetics Limited (FANCL); Mrs Michelle Chan, Executive Director of Fantastic Natural Cosmetics Limited (FANCL); Mr Kurt W. Tong, Consul General representing the United States to Hong Kong and Macau; Ms Linda Fung and Ms Evonne Tsui, Hong Kong Ballet’s Board of Governors members; Ms Wendy Law; Mr Steven Ma; Ms Chrissie Chau; Ms Christine Eng; Mrs Nicola Young; Ms Snowy Choi; Ms Jocelyn Chan and many more.
With FANCL’s generous donation to the Company’s Accessibility Fund, members from The Boys & Girls Clubs Association of Hong Kong, Pok Oi Hospital Rotary Club of Hong Kong Sunrise Family Development Center (Tin Ching) and Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service received 100 complimentary tickets to enjoy the 15 December matinee performance. A pre-performance talk was also specially organised for the three beneficiary organisations.
