Hong Kong Ballet presents

A special one-hour family production in English, Cantonese and Mandarin with extra shows at Y-Theatre

[Hong Kong – 7 December 2017] Hong Kong Ballet kicks off the New Year with the beloved Ballet Classics for Children: Swan Lake, which returns to enchant fans of all ages in 2018. In its aim to reach a wider range of audiences, the popular series will have eight performances at Hong Kong Cultural Centre 1-4 February and four shows at the Y-Theatre in Chai Wan 23-25 March in English and Cantonese. Following its sold-out show narrated in Japanese last season, the Company will present its first-ever show in Mandarin narrated by Company dancer Lin Chang-yuan Kyle.

Magically step inside the intriguing Swan Lake story and admire the beauty and innocence of the White Swan, hold your breath as the Prince mistakenly falls for the Black Swan and beware of the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart! This one-hour version of the full length classic will introduce Swan Lake’s main characters and good vs. evil story as well as key ballet concepts. Renowned local choreographer Yuri Ng and well-loved narrator Rick Lau will again collaborate with Hong Kong Ballet dancers to engage audiences with their innovative blend of storytelling, dance and audience interaction.

Ballet Classics for Children is an excellent first introduction to a live ballet performance for children as young as 5 years old. Shows usually sell out quickly, so get tickets early to avoid disappointment. Tickets are priced at $300, $200 (Hong Kong Cultural Centre) and $250, $150 (Y-Theatre). Tickets are now available at URBTIX.

About Swan Lake
The story focuses on the beautiful Odette, who has been cursed by the evil Von Rothbart and can only take on human form at night; the curse can only be broken by a vow of true love. The handsome young Prince is enthralled by Odette and they fall in love. At the Ball, Von Rothbart arrives with Odile, who he has enchanted to look exactly like Odette. This tricks the Prince into believing that Odile is Odette, and he unintentionally vows to marry Odile the Black Swan. Broken-hearted, the Swan Queen Odette is reunited with the Prince by the lake for one last dance, before they tragically end their lives by jumping into the lake together, sealing their eternal love and breaking Von Rothbart’s spell.
