[Hong Kong – 11 May 2018] Hong Kong Ballet announces its inspiring, passion-filled 2018/19 Season, curated by its new Artistic Director Septime Webre. Seamlessly blending classic masterpieces with fresh contemporary works, the new season features the Asian première of ALICE (in wonderland), Webre’s original production based on a timeless story; a new staging of one of the greatest romantic ballets ever created, Giselle, coached by ballet-world superstars Julio Bocca and Alessandra Ferri, and including guest appearances by international ballet stars Marcelo Gomes, Sarah Lane and Matthew Golding, with China Everbright Ltd. as its Title Sponsor; the Asian première of The Great Gatsby, where breathtaking ballet and exhilarating jazz music tell an extraordinary tale of wealth, excess and obsession in the Roaring Twenties; an encore of the multi-award winning pirate love story Le Corsaire by Anna Marie Holmes; the popular family-friendly Ballet Classics for Children: Carnival of the Animals and the beloved holiday classic The Nutcracker, with FANCL as its Title Sponsor.
Other new productions include Hong Kong Cool, a collaboration between established and emerging local choreographers and Hong Kong-based composers, videographers, fashion designers and visual artists supported by West Kowloon Cultural District and Hong Kong Art School; the 1st Annual International Gala of the Stars with world-renowned ballet stars including San Francisco Ballet Principal Dancer Tan Yuan Yuan, American Ballet Theatre Principal Dancers Sarah Lane and Herman Cornejo, Washington Ballet Principal Dancer Brooklyn Mack, and international ballet stars Matthew Golding, Adiarys Almeida and Taras Domitro, who will be dancing alongside HKB artists in celebrated classical and contemporary ballet works; HK Ballet x HK Phil: The Rite of Spring co-produced with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Ballet Family Club’s aim is for parents to support their children’s interest and advancement in ballet, and its members will receive audition information first for children’s roles in upcoming productions as well as priority enrolment for Ballet Theatre Camp and other children’s workshops and classes.
